Why SILVERSEA?
In a day and age where traveling often feels overwhelming or uncertain, Silversea offers an experience that is bound to put your anxiety to rest. The freedom of being able to unpack (or having someone unpack for you) one time as you are handheld through several different countries leaves you feeling relaxed and prepared for discovery.
Set the scene
With a variety of lounges and restaurants, and holding just 596 passengers, the Silver Moon is the perfect balance of a boutique atmosphere. The elegant décor and soft colors of sea and sand will invite you in as you discover beautiful art pieces scattered about the vessel. At the pool deck level, you’ll find plenty of space to lounge on a sun bed with your reading material or relax in one of the whirlpools. The attentive wait staff will be consistently present to be sure you have a fresh towel or beverage. Should you wish to take advantage of the included Wi-Fi, the Arts Café is the perfect place to catch up on emails or face time family while you sip your espresso.

Food and drink
There are 8 different venues to satisfy your gastronomic experience. Silversea is a master at bringing the flavor of the destination onboard. You will find fresh ingredients at Spaccanapoli the pizzeria, named after the well-known street in Naples, or the raw Asian inspired dishes at Kaiseki to the All-around dining, should you wish to enjoy a meal in the comfort of your suite. The dining options are bound to expand your travel experience. Whether your preference is nonalcoholic or traditional spirits, the art and skill of the mixologists onboard will bring your taste experience to another level. Your classic favorite will be enhanced. Or perhaps you’ll come home with a new creation as you become immersed in the story of your cocktail origin.

Common areas
Silversea has a way of creating plenty of space to occupy yourself as you sail from port to port. Remaining consistent with the intimate environment of luxury, you’ll find small and sexy venues that are bursting with likeminded travelers, allowing connections to be made with newfound friends from all over the globe. Should it be the love of theatre, music, or enrichment lectures, you may find yourself in the Venetian lounge to enjoy the programs or performances. For the cigar enthusiasts who wish to sample or buy the finest Cuban cigars, make your way to the Connoisseur’s Corner to mingle with others who share this passion, as you enjoy pre-dinner cocktails. Create your own team, pair up with others, or simply observe the high energy of fun-loving competitors as they test their knowledge during daily Trivia at Dolce Vita.
The service
There are some things that you can teach, and there are some things that naturally come with the territory. Silversea is blessed with an amazing staff that is organically designed to serve. Genuine smiles and attentive to every whim, it’s no wonder there is little turnover with the employees onboard. This longevity of their employment speaks volumes of stability as a company. Especially after enduring a pandemic that called for a major pause in the cruising industry. While there were evident adjustments with the ever-present Covid restrictions, to ensure safety and compliance with new regulations, there was absolutely no interruption to service offered.
Accessibility
Silversea does their best to accommodate and include all abilities. However, on this ship their accessible suites are few. Also, as much as the ship may allow for this, there are many European destinations that are challenging for those with different abilities. Whether it be terrain, local venues with narrow hallways or second floor toilets.
My favorite discovery was:
Connecting with people from all over the globe. Whether on a tender, bobbing to and frow toward a port of call, sipping leisurely on your pre dinner cocktail, or passing in the stairwell heading to morning coffee you’re bound to find a familiar and friendly face. The capacity of the Silver Moon allows plenty of organic opportunities to acquaint yourself with other guests onboard. I met families and couples from Thailand, Brazil, Spain, Australia, France, Denmark, South Africa, England plus a spattering traveling from the USA. I learned no matter where you’re from, the pandemic disrupted life as we know it and everyone was eager to unite with good food, quality service and see the world!
My favorite port of call and why:
This is a tough one. Each destination had its own unique appeal. Some because of the destination, it’s rich history and evolving beauty. Others because of incredible guides who were amazing storytellers. One port of call that stands out above the rest is the island of Gotland. As we visited Visby, the capital of this Swedish island, it was like stepping back into a time where medieval houses, churches and cottage lined cafés felt like a fairy tale. It’s no wonder this is a popular holiday destination for many Scandinavians. Photo opportunities were everywhere with churches from the 1600s, blooming botanical gardens, to the little villa used as the sweet shop for Pippi Longstocking in the 1960s.

Anything left to mention?
Sea And Land Taste Program (S.A.L.T) is by far the best experience at sea for those who appreciate the art and skills of mixology and award-winning chef quality of cuisine. The cooking demonstration is an incredible way to experience hands on, the quality of ingredients and talent that goes into each meal served on board. Often forgotten by most, however highly important to others, the gym onboard is more than adequate and the personal trainer at sea is knowledgeable and full of helpful tips for keeping in shape while traveling.

Traveler Tip
Typically cruising is an easy way to visit many countries and immerse yourself into cities you may not have visited otherwise. Traveling by ship eliminates common extras, such as foreign currency exchange, local language or other tidbits that deem unnecessary for a day visit. For example, during a bit of free time in Old Town Tallinn, we found their phone/internet was down for the credit card machine. While treats and other purchases may have been only a slight disappointment, for those who hoped to purchase something or use the toilet was a matter all its own. It may be worth it to invest in some local currency even if part of a cruise tour. If nothing else, anything unused can be a beautiful souvenir.
